Workingman's Dead - blue collar rock
A classic studio album from the Grateful Dead during one of their more productive times. Both Workman's Dead and American Beauty were released within a year and featured a softer, more country-tinged Dead that set a new tone and direction for the band. Included on the album are such classics as Uncle John's Band and Casey Jones. It is an album in every Deadheads collection, but if you are looking for a good entre into the Grateful Dead phenomenon this would be a great place to start. Great melodies, great playing and some great blue collar rock and roll.

A Grateful Dead Studio Album
You can't lose with this album. Bob Weir and lyricists, Harlow and Hunter, outdo themselves on this studio album. All the Dead participated and in my humble opinion, it is one of the best "Dead" studio albums. Known for their live performances, this gave them an opportunity to really stretch it out in a studio setting. Every song on this album became a staple of Grateful Dead concerts, including some real classics like "Playing in the Band" and "Cassady". A classic album from the ultimate San Francisco concert bands. If you haven't heard the originals before, this is a must-buy! The musicianship is top notch and the line-up of songs is phenomenal.

Habits of Mind - Habits for Life
Stephen Covey's book "The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People" has been around for awhile. Like many things that we have learned, it is easy to forget the powerful thoughts contained in this book. The title is somewhat deceptive. Covey doesn't just talk about habits that will make you a better worker. Indeed, the greatest power of the book is that it recognizes that the best employees are those who have a balanced life; a life that includes family, fitness, learning, as well as work. Covey's style make it easy to see how to implement each one of the 7 Habits, and recognizes that being an "effective person" takes time. One of the few self-help books that I would recommend for an individual, small business or corporation. It has something for all of us.
