It became apparent after many installations that the standard 3 mounting screws were not nearly as effective as a shift knob you simply screw on and plastic self-threading sleeved adapters like the ones used in several NRG Shift Knobs do not remain secure, so Shield Auto Parts made an adapter to facilitate a better installation between your shift knob and threaded shifter rod. If you find yourself with an aftermarket shift knob and the 3 set screws are just not holding their own, use a Shield Auto Parts Shift Knob Adapter and have peace of mind, knowing your shift knob is secure with threads instead of being held by 3 points that could loosen or give at any time.
