Protecting your account

We take a number of steps to help ensure the security of your account. But there's also a lot you can do. Find out more about ways you can protect your account.

If we need you to update your account or provide any information to eBay, we will always send a copy of our request to your Messages folder in My eBay. We’ll never ask you to email us your personal information.

We often send marketing and promotional emails that may not appear in your Messages folder. If you suspect that an email might be fake, be cautious and don't click on any links. You can change your communication preferences by going to My eBay > Account > Communication Preferences.

If you receive what you believe to be a suspicious or scam email, let us know by forwarding it as an attachment to spoof@ebay.com.

 
If you notice any changes to your account that you didn’t authorise, sign in to your account and change your password and secret question and answer. If you can’t sign in, contact us immediately through Live Help on our home page. Learn more.
 
If the message was sent from us, you’ll also find it in your Messages in My eBay. Learn more about reporting and recognising spoof emails.
