About this product

Product Information

Wolverine, also known to friends and enemies as Logan, was, like many people in the Marvel Comics universe, born a mutant. Possessing enhanced senses, claws made of an ultra-hard bone and an accelerated healing factor, he was deemed the perfect guinea pig for a government project known as Weapon-X. Logan's bones and claws were laced with an indestructible metal known as Adamantium, creating what was supposed to be a perfect soldier. This would-be soldier rebelled.

After an unknown amount of years since the project, in which he escaped the lab and joined the group of mutants known as the X-Men, Logan's been stranded on a remote, deserted island by archenemies Sabretooth and Magneto. To escape this island and reach his captors, the 'ole canucklehead will have to traverse the nine environments comprising the island, and then defeat them in some hand-to-claw combat.

Each of the nine-level environments carries a theme, ranging from Trial by Water, which is made up of underwater passages filled with spinning rotors, robotic foes, and machines firing homing bubbles, while Wolverine explores with a limited air supply, to Trial by Terror, which necessitates he battle through a horror movie-like environment containing skull-tossing wraiths, stretching blobs and lurching, metal-headed foes.

When he's not swimming, jumping and running through these levels, Wolverine can pummel his foes with a punch-punch-kick combo, unsheathe his claws to tear them up for more damage, or go into a berserker rage which makes him invincible but also nigh uncontrollable for a limited time. To trigger a berserker attack, you must fill up his berserker meter by killing foes without taking damage yourself. Taking damage reduces your meter, as does using your claws for an attack -- you must gauge whether a situation calls for our hairy Canadian pal to quickly destroy his foes at the loss of some energy.

Wolverine starts with one continue and three lives, twelve units making one life. Energy can be replenished by grabbing a monstrously huge hamburger or bottle of liquid refreshment stashed about the levels, extra lives may be found in the form of 1-Ups, while Free Game icons yield an extra continue. An air meter counts down from twenty-five while you're underwater and upon reaching zero, slowly depletes your energy.

Hidden rooms can be found about, usually containing the aforementioned items, as well as other X-Men characters, including Psylocke and Jubilee; Psylocke will give you a device allowing you to call Havok in for some assistance, while Jubilee supplies you with an apparatus increasing your air capacity.

One player can attempt to defeat Sabretooth and Magneto them self, or a second player may join in for the two player-alternating mode.
