Product Information

While the Sega Genesis is home to many space shooters, Truxton by Toaplan stands out. A combination of high-quality graphics, award-winning sound, and a challenging level of difficulty make this a popular shooter game for the Sega console. The storyline for this game is simple and gives you all the background you need to know. The evil Dogurava is the leader of the Gidan army. He sets his sights on conquering the planet Borogo by smashing five asteroids into the world's surface. As the sole survivor of the initial wave of attacks, you steal a ship and take the fight to Dogurava. Originally released as an arcade game in Japan, Truxton was released on the Sega Genesis in 1989.This version of Truxton retains all the features of its arcade counterpart. The music, levels, and graphics are the same between the two games. Like other games in this genre, Truxton is a vertical scrolling game. Your ship is in the bottom half of the screen, and the screen will continuously scroll upwards. Your ship is outfitted with two weapons: a cannon and a stack of bombs. One button on the Genesis controller will shoot the gun, while the other will shoot a bomb.Your default weapon is a three-way shooter that destroys enemies directly in front of you. As you play the Genesis version of Truxton, you'll encounter items that allow you to power-up your weapon. Collect four of these icons to advance to the next power level. For example, your three-way cannon now becomes a deadly five-way cannon when powered up. In addition to powering up your base gun, Truxton offers two additional weapon types. One weapon type will allow you to shoot a green arrow in front of your ship. This arrow pierces through enemies, destroying numerous foes at one time. The other weapon type is a stream of lightning that will home in on your enemies. Lastly, there is a limited stock of bombs you can use. Each bomb will deal massive damage to all enemies on the screen and destroy all bullets. You can collect more bombs as you play by destroying enemy troops. There are also speed increases available, which make it easier to maneuver around enemy bullets. You'll need all the power-ups you can get, as Truxton is a challenging game. It's so difficult that developer Toaplan has given it the alternate name Tatsujin, which means "expert." Like most Sega games in this genre, it only takes one bullet to destroy your ship. While this Sega Genesis game does feature checkpoints, you lose your upgrades when destroyed. Once your lives are gone in Truxton, the game is over and you must start again from the beginning. If you're finding the difficult too hard, Truxton offers multiple difficulty modes. The Easy mode makes the enemies move more slowly and fire less often, while the Hard mode makes everything faster. The Genesis version of the game features five stages divided into two sections each. You'll first play through an outer space level, followed by a level that involves attacking the asteroid itself. This retro game isn't over after the credits roll either. Truxton restarts from the beginning after completing the last level, earning players a different ending if they can win again. While this title has no official rating, it features intense action gaming. It is considered suitable for gamers of all ages.
