Product Information
This book explains common business systems for computer programmers and students. If a program is to be effective, it is important that the programmer developing it has a real appreciation of the purpose for which it is being written. Too often systems analysts and programmers develop systems in isolation with little understanding of the functions which the program will eventually fulfil. In this introductory book, the author describes the main business functions for computing staff and students. Using the example of a manufacturing plant the author describes the main business functions which competing staff may have to work on. These business functions are explained alongside the relevant computer concepts to show how the basic systems can and must support the business requirements. Common business functions are described including order processing, inventory management, purchasing, sales, purchase and nominal ledgers, producing statistics and management information. The book aims to integrate discussion of the business systems with the relevant computing concepts and to stress the need for students and programmers to be aware of the practical business requirements of a system and for individual systems to link with others already in place.Product Identifiers
