Spec Ops: Platinum Collection brings four titles, released during the 1998-2000 time frame, together in a single 100-mission elite squad-based combat package. Games include the innovative Spec Ops: Rangers Lead the Way, a self-fulfilling title that helped pave the way for the current spate of squad-base shooters, and its add-on mission pack, Spec Ops: Ranger Team Bravo. Spec Ops II: Green Berets and its add-on pack, Spec Ops II: Operation Bravo, add another 50 or so missions to the mix, along with enhanced multiplayer action.<br><br>The collection features the 132-page Official Strategy Guide from Mars Publishing, which contains complete walkthroughs of missions from both Spec Ops and Spec Ops II. Topics covered include mission phases, situation overviews, objectives, preparation requirements, and planned actions. The games in the series offer a wide array of arsenals, ranging from machine guns and shotguns to grenade launchers and explosives. Environments run the gamut from snow covered ice fields to hot desert climes.<br><br>The original games featured two-man Ranger teams, with Spec Ops II bumping the action up to four-man elite squads. Gameplay involves selection of the correct squad configuration for each mission (e.g., snipers, demolition experts, infantry, grenadiers, close-quarters' fighters, or machine-gunners), proper weapon load-outs, and level of difficulty.
