The Sigma 500 mm f/4.5 lens is a versatile ultra-telephoto lens constructed with 12 elements in nine groups, as well as a multi-layer lens coating that works to reduce flare and ghost effects for distortion-free photos. In addition, this Sigma APO lens is apochromatic, which means that it uses two extra-low dispersion (ED) glass elements to reduce chromatic aberrations. The Sigma 500 mm f/4.5 lens uses sonic waves to drive its autofocus motor, resulting in quiet and fast focusing. This ultra-telephoto lens focuses internally, so the length of the barrel remains the same as the focus is changed. The Sigma 500 mm f/4.5 lens is compatible with all Nikon digital SLR cameras, and with a separate APO converter, it can function as a 700 mm f/5.6 lens or a 1000 mm f/9.0 lens. Instead of screw-in filters, this lens uses drop-in 46 mm filters, which allow photographers to change lenses quickly and easily. This makes this Sigma APO lens a suitable choice for landscape photography and other situations in which multiple filters will be used with the same lens.
