Notes(2-LP set) Most of Sarah Vaughan's Columbia recordings were on the commercial side, but not the memorable selections on this wonderful vinyl reissue. She recorded eight selections in 1950 with an octet that included trumpeter Miles Davis, trombonist Benny Green, the remarkably cool clarinetist Tony Scott and tenor man Budd Johnson. This double LP adds alternate takes to seven of the numbers, none on the original single LP release. 180 gram vinyl. Tracks are: East of the Sun (And West of the Moon), Nice Work If You Can Get It, Pinky, the Nearness of You, Come Rain Or Come Shine, Mean to Me, It Might As Well Be Spring, Can't Get Out of this Mood, Spring Will Be a Little Late This Year, Ooh, What 'Cha Doin' to Me, Goodnight My Love, Ain't Misbehavin', It's All in the Mind, the Nearness of You (alternate take), Ain't Misbehavin' (alternate take), Goodnight My Love (alternate take), Can't Get Out of this Mood (alternate take), It Might As Well Be Spring (alternate take), Mean to Me (alternate take), Come Rain Or Come Shine (alternate take), East of the Sun (And West of the Moon) (alternate take), the Nearness of You - take 5(master), take 1(alternate).
