NotesEU four CD collection. After establishing his own quartet in 1960, the paths John Coltrane trail-blazed over the following two years would alienate and enchant Jazz fans in equal number. Vilified as "anti-Jazz" by some critics, the saxophonist's recordings explored an eclectic range of musical influences: The Blues, Folk music, Spanish, African and Indian flavors, the twelve-tone system and popular Broadway songs. This retrospective tells the whole controversial story. Included is an insightfully written 36 page booklet together with complete discography and rare photos, as is the hallmark of this edition. Compiled and annotated by Jazz musician and acknowledged expert Simon Spillett.
