About this product

Product Information

History of the World is based on the board game published by Avalon Hill and created by Ragnar Brothers. The game is a variant of Risk in that you try to conquer a map of the world, with each occupied land earning you points for as long as you remain in control. Yet instead of using one army or group, each player must command seven different empires during the seven phases of the game, referred to as Epochs. Each empire under your guidance is based on an actual empire that ruled during the featured historical time period. For example, during Epoch I (3000-1400 BC) you may find yourself controlling the Egyptians or Shang Dynasty.

Each of the 49 empires differs in the number of units you begin with to occupy surrounding lands. After you use all of your men, the amount of points your empire receives is calculated and the turn is over. Then the next player will play his or her empire until everyone has finished (up to seven players can play at once), thus ending the Epoch. During subsequent turns (Epochs) you may choose to attack existing empires (using dice rolls), play various "event" cards (to cause calamities such as earthquakes or barbarian attacks), or expand into unoccupied lands. The player with the most Victory Points at the end of the seven Epochs is the winner. The game includes e-mail support for remote human players and offers nine different AI settings for computer opponents.
