Industrial historian Anthony Burton looks into these two giants of the late Georgian and early Victorian age, who were responsible for the development of much of the early railway map in both Britain and other parts of the world. The work examines the lives of the two men and their ability to overcome some of the most pressing engineering problems of their time. This is a new work, with newly researched material published here for the first time, which take a fresh look at both pioneering engineers and their achievements. AUTHOR: Anthony Burton is a well known and respected historian of industrial and transport history, who has written many books over the last fifty years. During the past five decades, he has written books on the history and development of canals, railways and manufacturing, also covering the history of the industrial revolution and its effect on the landscape of Britain. He has in the past been involved with the making of a number of important television series, for the B B C and independent broadcasting companies on industrial historical subjects. This book about the Stephenson's is his latest book for Pen and Sword, covering early engineering pioneers who paved the way in early industrial development. Anthony Burton lives in Stroud Gloucestershire, where he is involved with a number of local heritage projects and continues to research and write, books on industrial history. 50 b/w illustrations
