The Garmin 16x HVS is a complete GPS sensor with embedded receiver and antenna. With a minimum sensitivity of -185 dBW, this Garmin GPS receiver is capable of operating with only marginal signal strength. The sensor requires few additional components to make a complete GPS receiver. The Garmin 16x HVS communicates over true RS-232 at programmable rates from 4800 to 38400 baud using NMEA 0183 commands. The port is also configurable for binary data. This Garmin GPS receiver features differential DGPS capability using real-time WAAS or RTCM corrections and 1 PPS, as well as duty cycles from 2 percent to 98 percent. Moreover, updates to the firmware are downloadable from the Garmin website. The GPS sensor operates on an unregulated supply of 8 volts to 40 volts and draws 65 mA at 12 volts when in operation, and the unit draws less than 10 uA in standby at any voltage. The Garmin GPS receiver is housed in a rugged waterproof black polycarbonate thermoplastic case that is 3.6 inches diameter by 1.7 inches high and weighs 6.1 oz.
