Designed by Impressions, Cohort II advances the designer's Micro Miniatures System that was used in two of their previous titles. As leader of the Roman army, you have the option to customize your units, choosing from archers or light, medium or heavy infantry or cavalry. If you choose to fight as barbarians, the same types of troops are available with the exception of cavalry. Cohort II takes place between 200BC to 200AD and lets you customize scenarios or use any of 28 that are included with the game. Scenarios feature eight different terrain types which affect both movement and combat as well as a level of control ranging from 100 men increments (general), to a row of men (group) and down to a single soldier.<br><br>Combat occurs in real time with an option to pause which allows you to review and/or change orders and obtain an overview of your troops' status. Interface options include both mouse controlled icon-driven commands and keyboard scrolling used in movement of troops. Each type of unit is assigned specific attack, defense and firepower ratings and you track morale and numbers of survivors as the battle unfolds. As a design bonus, the entire Cohort II battle system can be linked with another Impressions game, Caesar which provides a means for allowing battles from that game to be played out in detail.
