Adequate lighting can arguably be the most important factor in capturing a quality photo. The ability to focus the correct amount of light on a subject and its background can be critical to allow any lens and camera to function properly. The Canon Speedlite 320EX Shoe Mount Flash for Canon cameras can do just that. In addition to the main flash, the Canon Speedlite 320EX features a separate LED light that can illuminate the main subject and additional subjects in the background. The LED light can be especially useful in dim light situations. The use of the LED function can result in the creation of a natural lighting type of environment. The Canon Speedlite 320EX can provide ideal light for video recording, use with a zoom lens or as an assistant beam. When used with a camera with E-TTL metering the lighting results can be excellent. Canon uses the term E-TTL to describe a through the lens metering system in which the light exposure is controlled in an automatic or semi-automatic manner. Telephoto capabilities are (50mm full frame equivalent, max Guide Number 105 ft./32m at ISO 100) settings. The Speedlite 320EX can be used in off camera mode as a wireless slave unit when used with an EOS digital single lens reflex (DSLR) camera that has built in transmitters. The wireless slave function supports three groups and four channels in the off camera mode. The Canon Speedlite 320EX Flash also has a flash release function that allows the flash to be operated remotely with a 2 second delay, increasing its wireless capabilities. Flashes for the speedlight have a recycle time of 0.1 to 2.3 seconds, it is quickly ready for the next photo or video. Power for the Canon Speedlite 320EX Flash is provided by four AA batteries. With its internal power supply, the Speedlite can be operated without the need of external cables or wires. With fully charged batteries the Speedlite can provide up to four hours of continuous lighting. The head of the shoe mount flash tilts up to 90 degrees, left to 180 degrees, and right to 90 degrees. This capability of head tilt can provide adequate light on the subject of the photo shoot and allow the photographer to alter the flash based on the lighting requirements of the environment. The flash coverage may be switched by retracting or extending the flash head with normal (24mm, full frame equivalent, guide number 79. ft/24m at ISO 100) The Speedlite works with a variety of Canon cameras and lenses. Accessories for the Speedlite include a soft case and mini stand. Other accessories offered are additional cases, light diffusers, and instruction booklets. The Speedlite is compact and lightweight. Its’ dimensions are 3.1 inches by 2.8 inches by 4.5 inches. The flash weighs 9.8 ounces with a shipping weight of 1 pound.
