Boktai 2: Solar Boy Django, also known as Zoku Bokura no Taiyo Taiyo Shonen Jango, is the direct sequel to the critically acclaimed Boktai: The Sun is in Your Hand, both of which were made for the Nintendo Game Boy Advance (GBA). Developed and published by Konami, the game was officially released in July 2004 in Japan. It had a release date of October 2004 in North America. The story follows Django, who is confronted by a mysterious vampire in his hometown of San Miguel. His Gun Del Sol, or solar gun, is stolen, and he’s left with a solar glove that he must use to enchant weapons like a sword with the sun’s power. With this, he must hunt down the vampire and prevent the Black Dainn from releasing the Eternal, Jormangandr, and thereby destroying the world. Throughout Boktai 2: Solar Boy Django, players meet new characters, solve puzzles, and create more powerful weapons with which to face down enemies. Django reunites with Sabata and Lita from the original game and is also introduced to characters, such as the Sunflower Girl, Zazie, and librarian and guild master Lady. With the help of his new associates, he advances through the game and prepare for his confrontation with Jormangandr, whom he must bind again in order to save the world. This role-playing game for GBA looks very similar to the original Boktai in terms of gameplay. It consists of a series of dungeons, all of which focus on using stealth and on solving puzzles in order to make your way through successfully. The dungeons culminate in boss fights against various vampires. Depending on the choices you make throughout the game, as well as the way you battle the final boss, you’ll see one of four possible endings when you complete the game. In order to see each ending and get the most complete experience, you have to play the game through and defeat Jormangandr several times. Boktai 2: Solar Boy Django introduces the solar forging feature, which allows you to combine two weapons in order to create a stronger one. By forging swords or other types of weapons together, you gain access to more powerful attacks, which makes fighting easier as you progress through the dungeons. The forging two of the same weapon together – for example, combining a long sword with another long sword – results in a stronger SP weapon. An additional feature in Boktai 2: Solar Boy Django is its use of solar sensor technology. The GBA cartridge has a photometric light sensor, which measures the amount of sunlight it’s exposed to and uses that to power the Solar Smith. This new feature makes the game more interactive, forcing you to think about not just how you play the game, but also when you play it.
