In Antarctic Adventure for the ColecoVision, you must help a spunky penguin speed through ten Antarctic ice stations around the South Pole. Each race is against the clock; if time runs out before the racer reaches an ice station, the game is over. When he reaches a station, he hoists the station's flag, turns around, and salutes. You view the action from behind the penguin. As you skate on webbed feet around each icy course, crevasses appear on the track. You should leap over them for points or slide around them. If you fall into a crevasse, you should scamper out as quickly as possible. Ice puddles also clutter up the track. If you wander too close to an ice puddle, you'll skitter and slide, eating up precious time. If you see a fish jump out of a puddle, try to grab it for extra points. Oftentimes a seal will pop up out of a hole in the ice. Skating around a seal is generally the safest course of action, but you can try to jump over one of its shoulders. A head-on jump usually results in a time-wasting collision. Throughout each race you will see bright green flags that were scattered across the ice by previous polar explorers. Each flag you manage to capture is worth a whopping five hundred points! Antarctic Adventure is for one player only. If you finish each of the ten timed races, you'll have helped your penguin pal to be the first to circle the entire South Pole. However, if you feel your penguin is not ready for the rigors of an actual race, you can try a Practice Run.
