Developed separately from the console versions of the title, the DS edition of Forgotten Sands incorporates the play style of earlier games in the series while adding handheld-exclusive features. The hero springs into acrobatic exploration and scimitar-swinging melee, commanding new powers over the forces of nature and the flow of time. The game's original storyline fits in the Sands of Time saga, while adding new characters, conflicts, and plot elements. The great powers under the Prince's command are tied to great responsibilities, to which the noble hero must attend in order to preserve justice and truth. Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands is released alongside the summer 2010 theatrical debut of Disney's Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time, the feature film directed by Mike Newell and co-written by the game series' creator, Jordan Mechner.
