After unpacking and allowing it to stabilize at room temperature for several hours I installed it in a vintage Mac SE that I restored. The drive was recognized immediately and allowed me to test with disk utilities and then to install the OS. After that the drive was operational for 2 days then is no longer recognized by the system. Unfortunately, this is always a possibility with 30+ year old electronics.
