the mirror was for an MB SL R230 from late 2002. The reference was at the list, so it should fit but not: Fixing was different and it was too big. As it was not clear were the error was, I opt to use the fixing from the old mirror, take out the new one from its base (not difficult with a nylon cord), grind about 8 mm from the upper corner (the one that collide) with a dremel and fix it on the old base. As the mirror was good quality, I prefer to mend it. You never knows with 20 years old cars
