Reviews
"This is a fine work from an Old Testament scholar that straddles the boundary between exegesis and exposition. And for this rare species of writing I, speaking for myself and for the guild of preachers, am grateful. It is adequately sized for homileticians, sufficiently deep in its analysis, and thoughtfully considerate of sermonic issues. This tome promises to be one of the first I will pick off my shelves when I'm preaching Ezekiel." --Abraham Kuruvilla, Senior Research Professor of Preaching and Pastoral Ministries, Dallas Theological Seminary "John Hilber is an outstanding Old Testament scholar with significant pastoral experience. He is well-equipped to produce a commentary geared to those who teach and preach the word of God regularly. Busy pastors should find this volume user-friendly and helpful. For each literary unit, the author discusses the prophet's message and key themes, provides interpretive insights on key passages, builds a theological bridge to application, and offers thought-provoking applicational direction." --Robert B. Chisholm Jr., Chair and Senior Professor of Old Testament Studies, Dallas Theological Seminary, ""This is a fine work from an Old Testament scholar that straddles the boundary between exegesis and exposition. Synopsis
The primary goal of this commentary is to focus attention on what mattered most to Ezekiel and to craft a direction and scope of application that the prophet himself would recognize were he to preach to God's people today. In addition to focusing on the most urgent interpretive issues of the text, another goal of this commentary is to explain in simple terms the reasons behind significant translation differences. Embedded in some verses in Ezekiel are particularly complicated or troubling biblical-theological issues. Special topical discussions address these at appropriate locations throughout the commentary.
