"The authors have revised their already excellent atlas to include a full series of pictures of brains sectioned at 20 to 30 degrees to the orbital meatal line, the angle frequently employed with CT scanning...In addition to the standard anatomy, valuable sections on cytoarchitecture of thecerebral cortex and vascular structures are included."--Journal of Neurosurgery, "A book which deserves and invites careful handling and gives much aesthetic as well as intellectual satisfaction."--Neuroscience, "The task of anatomical review has been made easier with the secondedition of this photographic atlas. Dougherty, Ph.D., Johns Hopkins Medical School, "The most complete and most profusely illustrated human brain atlas currently available...Contains not only a basic core of information concerning the gross and sectional anatomy of the brain, but also material on the cytoarchitectural and vascular organization of the brain....The index isextensive and very usable."--Contemporary Psychology, "An elegantly produced package of photographs and light micrographs...Among the book's most enjoyable special features are several high-power Nissl-stained micrographs. Those of the cerebellar cortex and the hippocampus are especially intriguing....Anyone with an interest in the subject and aweakness for beautiful books will want to own it."--Yale Journal of Biology and Medicine, "A useful reference atlas which provides a number of coherent systematic series of sections through the CNS. The sections through the gross brain will be of considerable value for correlation with neuroradiological images."--Brain, "An elegantly produced package of photographs and light micrographs . . .Among the book's most enjoyable special features are several high-powerNissl-stained micrographs. Synopsis
Long overdue, this third edition represents a thorough revision of the leading neuroanatomy atlas for medical, dental, and allied health students. Additions of new material have been counterbalanced by deletions so that the book's size remains almost the same. There are new sections on coronal views of the gross brain, biochemical neuroanatomy, magnetic resonance, and computerized tomography. The coronal section includes 11 new photographs at a magnification of 1.3x. In addition, many changes have been made in the illustrations retained from earlier editions. From reviews of the second edition:, Long awaited, the Third Edition represents a thorough revision of this widely-used atlas. It takes into account the advances in computer-assisted brain-imaging techniques that do not restrict the plane of study and the recent progress in identifying and localizing putative neurotransmitters and neuromodulators in the brain. New sections offer coronal views of the gross brain and brain stem, biochemical neuroanatomy, magnetic resonance images, and recent computerized tomographic scans. In addition, many refinements have been made in the illustrations retained from earlier editions. As before, only the highest quality photomicrographs have been included., Long overdue, this third edition represents a thorough revision of the leading neuroanatomy atlas for medical, dental, and allied health students.
