The piece itself was padded and wrapped in layers of bubble wrap. There was also a "warning" on the outside of the bubble wrap, letting me know where the delicate ears were so as not to break them when unwrapping. That was much appreciated. shipping was a little pricey but considering the size of the box is understandable.
