My Bessy flew out our van window in 1979 while going down the freeway in Detroit. My dad refused to go back for her. She went everywhere with me before that. My parents would often tell the story about when they realized she was gone. They heard me say “Bye bye Bessy! Bye bye!” She wasn’t thrown, just sucked out the van window.
