So gut wie kein Schulkind kommt im Laufe seiner Schullaufbahn an Kleists Erzahlungen herum. Kleist schafft es auf einzigartige Art und Weise, dass Schauer und Schrecken den Leser uberfallt. Auf den ersten Blick moegen sie ein Stuck trivialer Schauerliteratur sein, doch bei naherem Hinsehen entdeckt man, wie konstruiert und durchdacht diese Erzahlungen sind. Man bekommt das Gefuhl, dass bei Kleist Gewalt immer eine noetige Folge sei, nicht geschieht ohne Grund. Gewalt ist bei Kleist aber nicht nur etwas Notwendiges, sondern auch etwas Abstossendes. Seine detaillierten Beschreibungen des Gewaltaktes erzeugten nicht nur beim damaligen Leser eine abstossende Wirkung. Zwar ist in Zeiten von grossangelegten Action-Blockbustern die beim heutigen Leser erzeugte Wirkung nicht mehr ganz so dramatisch, aber sie erscheint dennoch als etwas nicht ganz Alltagliches. Wilhelm Grimm wollte einst den Lesern der Zeitschrift fur die elegante Welt den Findling als das grause Gemalde wilder Leidenschaft und schandlicher Bosheit nicht empfehlen. Der Findling kann also exemplarisch fur das Phanomen der Gewalt bei Kleist herangezogen werden. Um die Kontinuitat der Motive fur Gewalt bei Kleist aufzuzeigen, wird eine weitere Erzahlung betrachtet: Die Verlobung von Santo Domingo. Gerade weil bestimmte Muster und Verhaltensweisen aus diesem Werk in Der Findling aufgegriffen und radikalisiert werden, lasst sich hier besonders gut die Gewalt und deren Ursachen herausarbeiten. Die folgende Abhandlung soll also nun die beiden angefuhrten Werke untersuchen und die Motive und Ursachen fur die Gewaltanwendung herausarbeiten. Hierbei sollen beide Werke unter bestimmen Gesichtspunkten verglichen und abschliessend ein gemeinsames Fazit gezogen werden. Grundsatzlich soll in zwei verschieden Gruppen von Faktoren unters
