I was a little concerned that this would not work as the only enclosures I could find for my old Mac Book Pro drive were £100+. I made sure I had a backup of everything on the drive just in case. Put the drive in the enclosure, screwed it together and used the usb cable to connect to my new mac. Drive mounted without any problems and works fine.
