It could have been packaged a bit more carefully--cardboard?--since it was a magazine. No special protection. I feel it would have felt better about the shipping costs if it had been packaged carefully, other than saying "do not bend."

We do not set shipping prices. Magazine was packaged in a yellow manila envelope with plenty of tape and "FRAGILE - DO NOT BEND" written in large font on front and back of envelope.
