It is made of a black cotton tulle net, completely covered with hand applied silver metal pieces in a decorative diamond design and triangle pyramid, Bedouin tent border along the front opening. This exceptional large size heavily embellished shawl was custom made for a wealthy tourist created into an opera cloak cape. It has an Art deco style, is a long floor length, lined backed in a black silk fabric with inside pocket and a wide padded gathered stand up ruff collar with a silk sash neck tie closure. The cape measures 44 inches long, with a 44 inch chest. It is in good condition, with areas of faint tarnish discoloration and two small frayed holes in the Assuit netting on the back and bottom front opening (see close-ups). The shawls were made popular during the 1920s with the discovery of King Tut's tomb and were made in Assiut, Egypt for the tourist market as well as traditional Egyptian weddings.
