General Derewenko (Chef des Dastroy Gulag) Das Wort Gulag steht reprasentativ fur das Repressionssystem der Sowjetunion und steht als Akronym fur die Hauptverwaltung der Lager (Glawnoje uprawlenije lagerei) des NKWD (Volkskommisariat des Inneren, mit Einschluss der Geheimpolizei)/ MWD (Ministerium des Inneren), sprich des Innenministeriums der UdSSR. Im Deutschen steht der Begriff fur alle in der Sowjetunion bestehenden Lager, Gefangnisse und Verbannungsorte politisch Inhaftierter. Guantanamo beispielsweise wird von Seiten Amnesty Internationals als der Gulag unserer Tage bezeichnet. Der Gulag umfasst Straflager, Gefangnisse, Zwangsarbeitslager und Verbannungsorte. Die Vorlaufer dienten bereits unter den russischen Zaren zum Zweck der Verbannung angeblicher Verbrecher und politischer Gefangener nach Sibirien. Selbst Lenin (1897 - 1900) und Stalin (1913- 1917) lebten in Krasnojarsk in deren Verbannung. Gegenstand dieser Arbeit ist die Auseinandersetzung mit den Hintergrunden, Ursprungen und Intentionen, dem Aufbau, der wirtschaftlichen und rechtlichen Rechtfertigung, sowie der Funktion des Lagersystems Gulag. Zudem werden an Hand des Gulag Workuta spezifisch diverse Faktoren der Unterdruckung und deren Folgen aufgezeigt. Zu Beginn dieser Arbeit werde ich kurz auf die Vorlaufer sowie auf generell wissenswertes uber den Gulag eingehnen. Gleichfalls werde ich darauf den Fokus auf den Besserungsarbeitsgedanken, die Funfjahresplane und den Artikel 58 lenken, welche allesamt Mittel der Rechtschaffung fur die Arbeit in den Straflagern waren.
