Donatien Alphonse François, Marquis de Sade. Published by Le Soleil Noir, Paris, 1950. Softcover, though retaining the fragile glassine jacket. Limited to numbered 940 copies, of which this example is 834. Colour tipped in frontis with tissue guard loose, but present and in good condition. Some faint creasing to the spine, minor wear to the edges of the wraps. Internally the page edges are untrimmed, with many pages unopened, so most likely never read since it was published at the middle of the last century. Glassine jacket with chipping to the edges, but generally good. Good+ overall. Scarce with the jacket. Justine is set just before the French Revolution in France and tells the story of a young girl who goes under the name of Thérèse. Her story is recounted to Madame de Lorsagne while defending herself for her crimes, en route to punishment and death.”
