(Antoine Arnauld) Lacks the front cover and leaves up to the Preface, though a date of January 19th, 1675 is printed opposite the first text page, so the title is assumed (BL Ref). Block sound, though with some damp marking to the outer pages, the odd mark here and there. The book is divided into 4 sections, the first 3 with running pagination, the fourth part separately paginated at 164pp, with an unpaginated index to the rear. Lacks the rear endpapers and possibly a latter index leaf. Rear cover still in place. Banded spine worn, old label to the upper compartment. Rare First English edition assumed. Sold as a binding copy. Antoine Arnauld (6 February 1612 – 8 August 1694) was a French Catholic theologian, philosopher and mathematician. He was one of the leading intellectuals of the Jansenist group of Port-Royal.”
