Once I opened the tablet, I fixed the charging port by cleaning with electrical contact spray and squeezing the USB port with long nosed pliers so it grips the plug tightly. The contacts weren't worn out so I didn't need to replace the connector after all. Tip: Don't use the tablet whilst charging, the weight of the cable bends the sides of the connector and stops the contacts making a good connection.
