About this product

Product Information

In the 1920s, resurgent Italy was intent upon reshaping the balance of power in the Mediterranean and beyond, challenging not only the French but also the Royal Navy's Mediterranean Fleet. At the heart of this strategy, the Regia Marina would deploy a powerful, battleship-led fleet - known in Italy as 'La Squadra' - to make the Mediterranean an Italian sea once more. Written by Enrico Cernuschi, a leading expert on Italian naval history, this book offers a comprehensive overview of this proud fleet, drawing on both Italian and Allied primary sources to present an authentic portrait of Italian actions and decisionmaking. It covers a multitude of factors often overlooked, such as codebreaking, the fleet's logistics, and the qualities and limitations of the Italian naval industry. It also provides a concise account and analysis of La Squadra's activities through the war, from famous battles to lesser-known actions. Illustrated with glorious artwork, maps, 3D diagrams and rare photos, this book offers fascinating new insights into Italy's great fleet of World War II.

Great book on the Italian Navy of World War II. This navy is finally getting the coverage that it deserves and much new information is presented. Forget the old WWII propaganda. This navy was much more effective than so-called histories relate. A must have for anyone interested in the Mediterranean theatre of the Second World War. It's also well illustrated with an index also.
