By the middle of 1863, the American Civil War had been raging for over two years, and under the brilliant leadership of Robert E. Lee, the Confederate forces penetrated Union territory, advancing toward Washington. A minor skirmish near the small Pennsylvania settlement of Gettysburg soon developed into the most famous conflict ever fought on American soil, changing the course of the Civil War. Following the traditional wargaming style of turn-based, hex-grid format gameplay, Talonsoft brings this epic struggle to life with Battleground 2: Gettysburg. Take control of the Confederate or Union armies for the three day battle, or play a variety of scenarios based on key engagements, including Culp's Hill, Little Round Top, and Pickett's Charge.<br><br>As in other releases in the Battleground series, a hand-drawn map recreates the battlefield landscape as accurately as possible. Divided into hexes, with each individual hex representing a scale of 125 yards, the goal of each scenario is to capture (or defend) a series of designated "objective hexes" on the map. Scenarios consist of turns in which the gamer can move units, perform formation and facing changes, or attack with melee and offensive fire. Factors including supply, leadership elements, reinforcements, fatigue, fog of war and line of site were built into the game engine for historical accuracy.<br><br>Alongside an AI opponent, Battleground 2: Gettysburg features multi-player options for two gamers with modem, play by e-mail and alternating turn choices. Newcomers to wargaming may wish to utilize the variable command system, which allows the gamer to issue orders to individual leaders during the battle. Combined with multimedia video and period specific music to provide a Civil War atmosphere, Talonsoft's Battleground 2: Gettysburg openly challenges the budding general with a deafening "rebel yell!"
