La collezione di disegni di un artista specializzato nella tempera a uovo, antica tecnica artistica. È considerato uno dei maggiori esponenti del realismo magico, assieme ai suoi colleghi e amici George Tooker e Paul Cadmus. Sposò Margaret Hoening nel 1937, artista anche lei e per i successivi otto anni la sua ricerca approfondì la fotografia, formando un collettivo chiamato PAJAMA (Paul, Jared, e Margaret). Durante il New Deal lavorò per il Works Progress Administration, realizzando murales su sua commissione. Fu sempre spinto da un forte interesse prima per il mondo maschile nella sua fisicità e concretezza, poi per il suo immaginario intimo sotto l'influenza degli studi junghiani.
