Synopsis
A fully illustrated guide to all types of Diamond T vehicles developed for and used by the US Army during World War II., "No serious library focused on WWII vehicles should miss including this volume on its shelves." -- History in Motion Between 1940 and 1945, Diamond T Motor Car Company supplied just over 50,000 vehicles to the US military, and also to the Allies. Of this, just over 30,000 were heavy 4-ton 6x6 trucks of varying types: cargo, tow truck, pontoon carrier, engineer, cartographic, etc. The "Diamond" would serve in all theaters of operations, wherever its robustness and reliability were necessary to complete the mission. Due to its expertise, Diamond T also produced the famous half-track, with more than 10,000 manufactured. All of these models are described in this work by Didier Andres, an expert in the subject. The text is illustrated throughout using archival and period photographs and diagrams., The Diamond T Motor Car Company became one of the U.S. Army's official suppliers in the mid-1930s. And so in 1940, with war looming, orders for Diamond T's brand-new 6×6, 4-ton trucks began rolling in: some 36,500 of the various versions would be supplied between November 1940 and August 1945. During the war years Diamond T would go on to deliver more than 50,000 vehicles to the U.S. Army and its allies, of which over 30,000 were heavy 4-ton, 6×6 trucks. The "Diamond" was present in all theaters of operation. Because of its expertise in producing heavy-duty vehicles, Diamond T also manufactured the famous halftrack, with more than 10,000 examples produced. This comprehensive and fully illustrated account describes in technical detail the evolution of the Diamond T design, and all the Diamond T models produced for the Army during World War II, including wrecker trucks, pontoon trucks, dump trucks, halftracks, and prime mover trucks. Packed with hundreds of period photos, diagrams, and tables, this book is perfect for historic vehicle enthusiasts, historians, and modelers. Casemate Illustrated Special offer unparalleled detail into the weapons, equipment, and machinery of war. Detailed, focused text is accompanied by hundreds of photographs, illustrations, and diagrams, providing a wealth of visual information for the historian, modeler, or researcher. Book jacket.
