The 1973 twenty-five cent piece of President George Washington was made less than ten years after the decision by President Lyndon Johnson to stop using silver in the production of a US quarter. The cladding of this coin is made out of 75 percent copper and 25 percent nickel, while the core is 100 percent copper. The US quarter features a mint mark from San Francisco, CA, but was used mainly for proof coins for collectors. There are 2,760,339 proof strikes of this coin, which was designed by John Flanagan. The weight of this copper-nickel coin is 0.20 oz and measures 0.96 inches in diameter. The reverse side of this 1973 twenty-five cent piece features an eagle with open wings, while the obverse side holds the left side of George Washington's head. This copper-nickel coin features a reeded edge design all around the perimeter of the coin as well. The US quarter is still in circulation today, and because of this is still worth its face value of twenty-five cents.
