This is likely a true 250x, unlike others thay claim to be 500x. 500x and handheld with no guard window to brace the viewed item against is ludicrous, as you movements would of course be magnified by 500x. This one does have a gaurd window to brace with, as well as a slot for slides. And since it isn't digital but optical, only the lenses magnify (far superior). Digtal magnification merely stretches the optical image.
