On this model, the toner cartridge is separate and fits into the drum unit which slides into the printer. Both have chips! Both will shut you down when the counts reach certain numbers, regardless of the condition of the drum and regardless of whether you have toner left. (Hint: You do!) I bought this thinking it was for toner but it’s for the drum unit. Don’t buy the wrong one!
