It’s a 160GB, 5400rpm SATA HDD that Hitachi has designed for portability and performance. With this drive, you can enjoy more storage space without additional battery drain. In fact, this drive provides enough storage for more than 50,000 digital photos and 2,500 hours of digital music. It can also store videos and data files.Hitachi has designed the 5K160 Travelstar SATA drive for the laptop form factor. This 2.5-inch form factor is designed specifically for laptops, notebooks, netbooks, and other portable electronics. However, it can also still be installed as an internal hard drive in a desktop computer. Many PC cases have bays for 2.5-inch drives. The difference between 15 mm and the laptop size of 7 mm is small enough to let you use the drive flexibly. You can also use this internal hard disk externally with a drive enclosure. Ensure that the hard disk enclosure is configured for the SATA interface and 2.5-inch drives.You can attach your HTS541616J9SA00 drive via either the PATA or SATA interface. SATA stands for Serial AT Attachment. It superseded PATA, which stands for Parallel ATA. SATA is a common connection type for drives, so its inclusion is important. However, the PATA support allows you more flexibility in your choices. The power connection will be the same whichever ATA version you use. Typically, you’ll connect to a Molex plug. In a hard disk enclosure, power may be delivered through USB or an AC or DC adapter.The Hitachi Travelstar 5K160 has a 160GB capacity and a 5400 rpm speed. An onboard 8 MB cache is provided as well. Note that while SATA does have a higher theoretical throughput, the 5K160 hard disk can’t saturate a PATA connection.The specifications for this device indicate a media transfer rate of 540 MB/sec. That speed is at the upper boundary for the specifications for 5400 rpm. This Travelstar drive uses perpendicular magnetic recording, or PMR. PMR provides high reliability and allows for low power consumption and high shock resistance. The HTS541616J9SA00 hard disk can be fully active from power off or standby in under 5 seconds. The average read/write speed is 1.6 milliseconds. The Travelstar 5K160 can also handle 1000 G at 1 millisecond. The Hitachi brand name and specs are listed on the side of the unit.The Travelstar 5K160 drive has a sector size of 512 bytes per sector. It comes preformatted accordingly, and you can reformat it to the necessary file format once installed. Your operating system should include any utilities needed to do so. This is an OEM bare drive. However, the firmware, drivers, and other software from Hitachi can be easily and quickly installed on the hard drive.
