Published by Chatto & Windus, London, 1988. First edition and impression. Bound in the original publisher's hardcover boards, titled in gilt to the spine. Spine ends with bumping, binding otherwise in good order. Internally the block is sound, the pages have age toning, as is common with this publisher, one page with a tear to the upper corner, as shown, but generally clean and tight. Jacket unclipped with minor creasing to the edges, small closed tear to the rear upper edge. Good to Vg- overall. A novel concerned with the gay relationship between William Beckwith (rich, unemployed, in his early twenties) and Lord Nantwich (comfortable, cultured and elderly) who become entwined when William saves Lord Nantwich from death. This was the first novel by the deputy editor of the "Times Literary Supplement".”
