Bound in the original cloth with titles gilt to the upper board and spine. Outer hinges starting to split, spine ends bumped, minor marks to the boards, spine toned. Plain green endpapers. Block sound, though with some scattered foxing here and there, some offsetting from the illustrations. Illustrated with 117 in text figures, later copies had more. Good overall. Text in French. The first edition of pioneering physiologist Etienne-Jules Marey's (1830-1904) influential treatise on the biomechanics of locomotion. The revolutionary techniques he employed in his studies, both mechanical and photographic, led to unforeseen practical implications in the fields of aviation and biophysics, and upon the advent of cinematography. 14 x 22cm.”
