Gamers can try out seven running events, five swimming events, four jumping events, four throwing events, three cycling events, two archery events, and one diving event. Each of the 16 available characters represents a different country, or players can create their own character from scratch. Summer Athletics can be played in both arcade and career modes, it features four different levels of difficulty, and certain events let up to four people play at a time.
