Was a thick, flat piece, of solid, blackened, corrugated steel. This one is plastic, you won’t be hammering anything with this knife. The one I had in 1985 was $35, this one is $35. I guess you have to cut corners to keep it cheap. Handle seems like it will break in your hand. Other than that, decent knife, very slow to ship. But shipping was inexpensive.
