An age-old feud between two Kentucky families reaches boiling point in The Trail of the Lonesome Pine. The Tollivers and the Falins have been at odds for decades. With plans to build a railroad through both families' land and mine coal deposits beneath it, enterprising outsider Jack Hale (Fred MacMurray, Double Indemnity) inadvertently becomes entangled in the region's politics.
