I've since had a conversation with the woman who sold me the first one. She stopped carrying these in her store three years ago because the quality had become so poor. I've ordered a replacement. I will never submerge it in water and I will not order another to replace it.

Not the seller's fault!! This item is supposed to be submersible. It is the 3rd one we have owned. I've often filled the bathroom sink with hot water to warm it prior to use. What ever was supposed to seal the switch failed and allowed water in, shorting the switches. I was able to set the switch on the dashboard of my car to dry out. The switch returned some function, maybe 80%. I'll buy another should this one die an untimely death as well. Again, not the seller's fault.
