Seller Notes: “Good-Very Good overall antique cond: The set of 9 early alphabet blocks are now somewhat faded ... “Good-Very Good overall antique cond: The set of 9 early alphabet blocks are now somewhat faded w/reduced intensity of color due to the effects of prev handling & time but are still readable, esp the few blocks w/raised, bas-relief letters. 6 of the blocks have 2 unpainted, blank sides. These alphabet wdn blocks are particularly early, possibly even as early as the late 19th c, dating from 1885-1915. The blocks haven't been prev lacquered or varnished & still have their orig pntd, matte dry surfaces. Some of the blocks have raised, carved, bas-relief high-case letters, while others are ink stmpd w/high case typography & numerals, as well as images of fauna. The colors are only slightly diminished & demonstrate the wdn block's veritable antique pedigree. The images of various animals, often exotic & outside of most children's familiarity w/local fauna, fnd on these wooden educational stacking alphabet blocks, not only introduced the alphabet to young Americans but also exotic wildlife.”
