This is the band's first record date after signing with Columbia features the solid sextet (Murphy, trumpeter Don Kinch, clarinetist Bob Helm, pianist Wally Rose, banjoist Dick Lammi and Bob Short on tuba) mostly playing obscure tunes (including "Daddy Doo," "King Chanticleer," "The Torch" and Murphy's "Five Aces") along with fresh renditions of "Creole Belle," "Frankie and Johnny," "The Pearls" (which has Murphy switching to washboard) and the always-rousing "Panama." Unfortunately, Turk Murphy's series of Columbia records (unlike his earlier Good Time Jazz dates) have yet to be reissued on CD, but all are worth searching for -- on these sides we have the promo release for the album including "THE PEARLS" and "CREOLE BELLE" on this 10" 78 rpm original record -- please see photos for overall condition”
