So the tape ultimately works fine but the protective plastic piece that covers the actual tape was broken. Fortunately I had a spare VHS tape to sacrifice to replace the broken piece and now the tape plays fine. It worked out but the item condition is not at all "very good". Simply popping it into any VCR would've easily demonstrated that. 👎
