Studebaker was staring at a glaring problem. The public showings of the Studebaker Avanti had gone extremely well, butthe dealers had not yet seen the car in the flesh. Studebaker had approximately 2,000 dealers in 1962 and a total of 10Avanti Prototypes. No production cars were available at this time. Operation Airlift was a means to introduct their new sports car to the car buying public.
